The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Breakdown Specialist (Afternoon) to join our Maintenance Team at our Cambridge Facility. 

The Breakdown Specialist is responsible for handling all aspects of roadside breakdowns to minimize the impact on load delivery and maintenance costs by sourcing the appropriate dealers, mobile technicians, and/or driver self-repairs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all on the road breakdowns for Challenger’s fleet of trucks
  • Determine the cause of the breakdown and coordinate the appropriate maintenance personnel
  • Maintain open and up to date communication with all personnel during the entire course of a breakdown situation (ie. drivers, dispatchers, external and internal repair personnel)
  • Make arrangements for drivers and freight to be brought home safely and in a timely manner, while maintaining customer, driver and company satisfaction.
  • Create maintenance schedules and make arrangements for the vehicle to be on site for the scheduled repair
  • Assist in maintaining maintenance records for fleet and generating reports periodically
  • Issue purchase orders, T-cheks, Virtual MasterCard and verify information for auditing purposes
  • Assist our warranty team in ensuring maximum advantage of our warranty coverages
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications and Attributes

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience in a technical support call center environment is an asset
  • Mechanical background is an asset
  • Ability to communicate in French would be an asset
  • Passionate about providing exceptional and prompt customer service
  • Interest in working autonomously to complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Eagerness to provide solutions quickly
  • Enjoys the challenge of working in a fast paced environment
  • Proficient communication skills: Must be able to converse effectively with Managers, Driver Managers, Planners, Shift Supervisors, Shop Personnel and Drivers
  • Ambitious and creative to find solutions to a wide range of problems and situations
  • Computer proficient
  • Positive and upbeat attitude with the willingness to take initiative


  • Afternoon- Monday to Thursday 12:00pm to 10:00pm
