ASL Distribution is looking for an experienced Dispatcher to join our team!

The Driver Coordinator is the main point of contact between the backbone of the transportation industry (our AZ Drivers) and the organization. This role is responsible for effectively coordinating a group of drivers to success through continual communication from the shipment pick-up to delivery and ensuring the appropriate internal departments (i.e. Customer Service, Breakdown, Customs) are aware of any updates. Position represents the company in a positive image with employees, customers and the community always performing in a safe and ethical manner to achieve financial success. Enjoys working in challenging situations, remaining calm and level-headed in stressful situations. The candidate will have industry experience, preferably within a unionized environment.

The Opportunity

We are currently hiring an Afternoons Dispatcher to join our Operations Team in Oakville.  This is a great opportunity for someone who’s not afraid to roll up their sleeves and do what needs to be done to make a significant contribution in positioning a forward-thinking company to the next level of achievement.  We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cross Border Dispatcher to join our team. As a City/Highway Dispatcher, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring timely delivery of goods or services.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Communicate dispatch information to Drivers
  • Monitor and respond to driver’s satellite messages
  • Participate in and support driver retention initiatives
  • Collaborate with Customer Service and Planning teams to efficiently solve problems
  • Maintain fair and equitable distribution of work
  • Monitor driver performance and miles
  • Coach driver’s regarding customs, hazmat, hours of service, policy, regulations, satellites
  • Develop solutions for any driver inquiries
  • Update customer websites
  • Communicate & problem solve with customers as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Documentation: Working hand in hand with the Dispatch Manager, S&C Manager, and Operations Supervisor to maintain accurate records of fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance logs, driver logs, and delivery schedules, for reporting and auditing purposes.
•         Perform a weekly analysis of the Days Outstanding Receivables (DOR) to ensure timely payments and financial tracking.
•         Monitor and manage demurrage charges for trailers from customers such as Amazon, Gateway, and Walmart.
•         Daily tracking and completion of driver trips, ensuring timely progression and closure in FLX, Revenova once implemented.
•         Prepare driver envelopes containing necessary documents and information for the next day's trips.
•         Monitor and progress after-hours shipments, keeping customers informed of any relevant updates.
•         Scan Proof of Deliveries (PODs) at the end of each day to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
•         Use the GTA planner to organize and plan truck routes for the upcoming day.
•         Plan and dispatch drivers day-to-day from the morning dispatcher location, optimizing routes for efficiency.
•         Utilize the FLX system to mastermind order ratings, ensuring accurate and efficient order processing.

Desired Qualifications and Attributes

  • Minimum of 2 years truckload dispatch experience is an asset
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of Customer Service experience
  • Working knowledge of the North American transportation industry
  • ACE and Customs/border crossing experience an asset
  • Keen interest in building relationships with your team of drivers and co-workers
  • Desire to urgently resolve incidents that occur while driver is delivering their load
  • Exhibits a conscious effort to understand the causes instead of just the effects of a situation
  • Completes daily tasks autonomously, but enjoys collaborating with others when solving problems
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Good communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Intermediate level computer skills and proficient keyboarding
