The Disability & Benefits Management Specialist is responsible for managing the Company’s workplace benefits, injury claims, medical and modified work programs including short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), return to work and workplace accommodations.

In this role, you will:
Disability Management
- Manages the Company’s short-term and long-term disability claims for the Fastfrate Group of Companies.
- Initiates and coordinates the Company’s return to work programs, including offering modified duties and schedules to employees requiring accommodations.
- Partners with employees and managers to complete disability paperwork and forms as required.
- In accordance with legislation and Company policies and procedures, facilitates and coordinates the accommodation and return to work processes to ensure the employee’s return to productive work.
- Manages WSIB / CSST / WSBC claims from beginning to completion; this includes filing, investigating, processing and administering a variety of documents associated with accident reporting for the Challenger Group of Companies.
- Completes Form 7s and accident reports, ensuring accurate medical information has been received.
- Participates in WSIB hearings and WSIB initiated return to work meetings.
Benefits Administration
- Through the benefit carrier platform, accurately enrolls, enters and maintains new applications / enrollments, employee changes, salary updates and terminations related to the employee lifecycle for the Challenger Group of Companies.
- Develops effective communication tools to enhance the employees’ understanding of the Company’s group benefits package.
- Works closely with HR service providers to administer all benefit enrollments, terminations and revisions for eligible employees.
Reporting & Analysis
- Reviews monthly WSIB / CSST / WSBC cost statements to ensure accuracy.
- Reviews all workplace incident and injury reports to ensure information is complete, accurate and received on a timely basis; follows up with accident / investigation investigations as required.
- Maintains and provides accurate accident and illness statistical data and analysis.
- Prepares disability management and injury management reports as required.
- Collects and maintains detailed earnings and absence information; liaises with Payroll to ensure compensation information is accurate.
- Reconciles and processes monthly benefits billings for all eligible employees.
- Partners with Payroll department to contact employees regarding benefit payment arrears status.

- Member of the Health & Safety Committee and Policy Health & Safety Committee.
- Performs other duties as required.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Education & Experience:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in HR, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years disability / claims management and workplace accommodations experience.
- Experience conducting ergonomic assessments considered to be an asset.
- Experience in other HR functions including benefits administration considered to be an asset.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) considered to be an asset.
- Completion of courses under the National Institute for Disability Management and Rehabilitation (NIDMAR), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and/or Certified Return To Work Coordinator (CRTWC) considered to be an asset.
- Intermediate user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Experience in the transportation industry considered to be an asset.
- Detail and deadline oriented, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment.
- Ability to act with maturity and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong verbal communication skills, relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive attitude; takes initiative to prevent issues and has a bias towards action.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and independently with individuals at various levels is required.
